Touchback: Why Push The Panic Button?

The drama, the scandal, the intrigue, and most importantly the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots, these are the greatest reasons why the sport fan has made the NFL the most popular and most discussed topics in the media, at the water cooler, and on Sundays.   Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives and if you have been hidden underneath a rock for the past 3 days, then you missed the drama, scandal, intrigue, and the New England Patriots.

But who cares that the New England Patriots are cheating, it’s been happening for years. Image may be NSFW.

It is like the unwritten rules in Nascar if you are not cheating you are not trying. Oh, it’s frowned upon by many and in most cases overlooked.   The media is frenzied upon the life of the drama that is the NFL.

There is a place in the heart of Texas, nestled in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area known as Arlington, TX. Jerry Jones found in this humble little city a place to perch his mother ship known as AT&T Stadium. This stadium is a modern cathedral, the new Coliseum of its time, a gaggle of architectural genius with the largest screen that this world has ever seen. It is a bucket list item, take the tour, allow the kids to marvel in this palace, it is that kind of place.

With the modern-day sophistication of AT&T stadium and a team to back up its worth, The Dallas Cowboys are not without drama, scandal, or intrigue. If there is not drama involved in the Dallas Cowboys organization, then there is no Jerry Jones involved.Image may be NSFW.

But we all know that Jerry Jones is involved, do you think that the decision not to draft a running back went uncalculated? Not only is it calculated, but it is full of drama, scandal, and intrigue. Jones is telling the good folks of DFW that losing DeMarco MurrayImage may be NSFW.

helped the Cowboys. Look at this defense, it is somewhat unproven, but it is younger, faster, and more athletic than it has been in years. All thanks to the calculated move not to sign the 2014 NFL leading rusher, Demarco Murray.

What did losing Demarco gain for the Cowboys? A freak of an athlete in UConn’s Byron Jones who can play slot corner or free safety, A freak athlete in Nebraska’s Randy Gregory, and a linebacker out of Minnesota named Damien Wilson which translates into younger, faster, and stronger on the defense.

Younger, faster, and stronger has not been a commodity for the defense in previous seasons, but it will be in 2015 and it will make a difference.

So why is everyone rushing to push the panic button because the Cowboys did not pick up a running back in the draft? It’s because DeMarco Murray had a freakish season last year, something that might not be reproduced again in Dallas. Will the cowboys need to employ a freak athlete at the running back position to win a Super Bowl? Look at this past season’s Super Bowl winning team? Where was the freak running back?   Yeah, I’m not sure you remember either! The point is, the defense that took the field for the Patriots provided the offense with a chance to win, deflated balls or not. So to suggest that the Cowboys have lost their minds by not picking a running back in the draft, suggest that many people are not paying attention to the NFL.

by the way, picked up a lineman in the rookie free agent class that was projected to be a first-round pick; however, a small legal issue arose, and no one touched him in the draft. LA ‘ell Collins is now a Dallas Cowboy, on a line boasting 3 first round picks and now a projected first-round pick has Jerry Jones laughing at the scoffers and Tony Romo thanking God for the gift of the stonewall of Dallas that now exist in front of him. And it is all because Jerry Jones did not push the panic button.
